History of Midwest City
Midwest City was founded by W.P. Atkinson in 1941 after he found out that an Air Depot (later name Tinker Field) would be built in the area. After meeting with Air Force officials, the general feelings were that a complete town with shopping centers, schools, and churches would be needed rather than just temporary housing.
The Town of Midwest City was incorporated March 11, 1943 by the Board of County Commissioners. On August 19, 1948 the first City Charter was filed changing the Town of Midwest City to the City of Midwest City. The City of Midwest City is the seventh largest city in Oklahoma. It is a well-rounded city providing for the needs of a community, such as education, shopping centers, recreation facilities, and quality medical facilities.
