Procedures
There are very few hospitals the size of Midwest Regional Medical Center that offer a full range of cardiology services including surgical and non-surgical interventions. And no other hospital in Oklahoma can claim they are
#1 in Oklahoma for Overall Cardiac Care 2006, 2007, 2008 (as ranked by HealthGrades.com, the nation's leading independent healthcare ratings company).
With three full-time cath labs at maximum usage, the staff of physicians, nurses and techs perform more that 3,000 cath procedures each year. Procedures include diagnostic arteriograms of the head, body and heart; interventions in blocked arteries through the use of balloons, stents, rotoblations or medicines; and temporary or permanent placement of pacemakers.
The patient success rate can be attributed partially to the joint efforts of the personnel of the Midwest Regional emergency department and the Oklahoma Regional Heart Institute, located at Midwest Regional. Few hospitals offer such quick reaction times, a standard at Midwest Regional.
The Heart Institute offers a wide range of diagnostic tests, cardiology procedures and specialized treatments for heart conditions through coordinated divisions of cardiology, nuclear cardiology, the cardiovascular lab, cardiac surgery, critical care nursing and cardiac rehab.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac Rehabilitation services are designed to help patients with heart disease recover faster and return to full and productive lives. Cardiac Rehab includes exercise, education, counseling, and learning ways to live a healthier life.
If you have had a heart attack, coronary bypass surgery, balloon angioplasty, arthrectomy, or suffer from stable angina, Oklahoma Regional Heart Institutes’s Cardiac Rehab program can help. Almost everyone with heart disease can benefit from some type of cardiac rehab. No one is too old or too young; and women benefit just as much as men.
Our Cardiac Rehab program is directed by a cardiologist and staffed by:
- Registered Nurses - who have all been trained in the care of patients recovering from heart attacks and heart surgery, and have been certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Exercise Specialist - who tailors exercise program specific for each patient and supervises progress.
- Registered Dietitians - who instruct patients and families on how to manage your diet.
- Pharmacist - who answers questions about medications specific to heart disease.
- Behavior Therapist, Counselor, or other professional - who is skilled in assisting with the management of stress.
