Midwest Regional Medical Center was the first hospital in the Oklahoma City metro area to install a da Vinci Robotic Surgical System. Robotic-assisted surgery is the next generation of minimally invasive surgery, using techniques that allow a surgeon to operate through several small incisions about the size of a dime. Benefits for the surgeon include increased range of motion, improved dexterity, and enhanced 3D visualization. For patients, the da Vinci system offers all the benefits of minimally invasive surgery, including shorter hospital stays, less pain, reduced risk of infection, less blood loss, less scarring, and faster recovery time.

Seated at a Master Console, the surgeon controls tiny, wristed robotic “arms” and an endoscope (camera) by using his own fingertips. The handles or “Masters” translate the surgeon’s natural hand and wrist movements into corresponding, precise and scaled movements of the surgical instruments inside the patient.
