Varicous Vein Treatment Services

Do you experience leg discomfort, swelling and varicose veins?

If so, you may be suffering from superficial venous reflux disease. Approximately 25 million people in the United States suffer from this condition. It is estimated that in America, 72% of women and 42% of men will experience varicose veins by the time they are in their sixties. This disease is progressive and symptoms will worsen over time if left untreated. In extreme cases, surface ulcers can develop. Traditionally, patients diagnosed with venous reflux would undergo vein stripping surgery. Now, patients can be treated with a new procedure called “Closure”, a minimally invasive alternative to painful vein stripping surgery.

The Closure procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, your physician will position the Closure Catheter into the diseased vein, through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter then delivers radio-frequency (RF)energy causing the vein to close. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins. Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the nsertion site and additional compression may be provided to aid healing. Your doctor may encourage you to walk, and to refrain from extended standing and strenuous activities for a period of time.

The Closure procedure results in good cosmetic outcome with minimal to no scarring, bruising or swelling and most major health insurers cover the procedure. The procedure boasts a 98% patient satisfaction rate.

Dr. KathyLee Santangelo, a Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgeon, specilizes in the Closure procedure at the Total Vein Care Center. The Total Vein Care Center in Midwest City is one of only 4 facilities in the Oklahoma City metro offering this new technology. “Patients who undergo the Closure procedure report feeling little, if any, pain during and after the procedure. They typically resume normal activities within a day and many notice immediate relief from symptoms,” says Dr. Santangelo.
