Midwest City, OK (September 18, 2012) - Midwest Regional Medical Center is set to celebrate 50 years of service on October 6, 2012. The hospital opened its doors as a small 70 bedcommunity hospital in 1962. Today Midwest Regional has grown to a 255 bed full-service hospital leading the way for technological advancements such as the first in the state to provide robotic surgery for prostate cancer, heart disease and lung cancer.
“Midwest Regional Medical Center does much more than provide quality care for our patients” stated Jason Proctor, Chief Operating Officer. “In the last five years we have invested over $40 million in facility and service improvements. These improvements include a completely renovated Emergency Department, expanded Cath Lab, the addition of the 7th & 8th floors, and the addition of Makoplasty Robotic Knee Surgery. Most recently, the medical center is finalizing the complete renovation of the 6th floor which supports inpatient orthopedic patients.”
Midwest Regional Medical Center is one of the largest tax-paying entities and employers in Eastern Oklahoma County, with a total economic impact exceeding $185.9 million in 2011 alone. The interest from the $40 million lease of the medical center to Health Management Associates, Inc., led the way for the development of the 29th Street shopping district in Midwest City and other grants for the community. One of the fundamental values of Midwest Regional Medical Center is its strong commitment to the community. “Our 1200 associates, over 300 physicians and 160 community volunteers are continuously looking for opportunities to provide the highest quality care available to our patients and are looking for opportunities to take important health education and awareness information out into the community” states Proctor.
