Children with allergies should receive allergen immunotherapy, or allergy shots, to prevent allergic asthma, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. The shots should be considered for children with allergy symptoms not controlled by medication or who have specific allergies to triggers such as pet dander, molds, pollens, dust mites or insect stings.
